With a view to promoting environmental awareness and social responsibility, Radico and SATHEE Foundation embarked on a joint initiative to promote a cleaner and greener Diwali. This initiative focused on raising awareness through educational programs for the children of Mahagunpuram Jogi, a densely populated slum in Ghaziabad. The benefits of a pollution-free “Clean Diwali, Green Diwali’’ were carefully instilled in the young minds. The long-term strategy of this program aimed at inspiring them to adopt healthy practices in future, to support a cleaner and greener environment.
The recently organized pre-Diwali event at Mahagunpuram Jogi in Ghaziabad saw the participation of more than 100 children and their parents. The interactive program made learning fun and enjoyable for the children. The sessions included storytelling and art activities, where the children could unleash their creativity and also understand the harmful effects of plastic, the benefits of planting trees, and using bio degradable materials. The concept of environmental sustainability was introduced through engaging, simple and fun activities. This awareness progamme educated the children on how to celebrate the festival of lights in an ecofriendly and responsible way. The lighting of earthen diyas or lamps, decorating the houses with rangolis, using environmentally safe alternatives to the noise- and air -polluting fireworks was explained. The approach to a healthier future through awareness and a participative, community spirit was also emphasized.
The conclusion of the progamme at Mahagunpuram Jogi slum was marked with the distribution of Diwali treats. Founder of SATHEE Foundation, Kajal Chhibber, distributed juice, fruits, biscuits, puffed rice and the traditional sweets (Khil Bataashe) to all the children present.
This successful initiative by Radico, an environmentally conscious and responsible corporation and SATHEE Foundation an NGO actively involved in impactful social work, has paved the way for a cleaner and greener tomorrow!
